Cybernauts uses data selectively. Each encounter explains its own behaviour before anything optional is saved.
Anonymous aggregate
The work may save limited measurements such as a choice, duration, or device category without requesting a name or email address.
Anonymous contribution
You may choose to contribute a drawing, sentence, sound, gesture, or other creative trace to a collective artwork.
Pseudonymous memory
A future encounter may offer an optional Cybernaut key that reconnects earlier choices without requiring a public identity.
Project principles
- No optional contribution is stored before the work explains what will be sent.
- Participation without saving should remain available whenever the concept allows it.
- Public display, long-term retention, and reuse in documentation should be treated as separate permissions.
- Data collection must have a clear artistic purpose rather than merely demonstrating technical capability.
- Security-sensitive information should not be requested.
Work 001: Consent Is Not a Button
The opening screen offers a genuine choice between Private Mode and Collective Mode. In Collective Mode, the work stores only an aggregate summary containing the participant’s first simulated choice, number of refusal attempts, completion time, final route, and mobile/desktop category.
The project does not save a name, email address, typed content, precise location, advertising identifier, or raw pointer history for this work. Results are added to cumulative totals rather than retained as a public individual profile.
Work 002: The Human CAPTCHA
The opening screen offers a genuine choice between a Private Encounter and a Collective Encounter. Both routes contain the same six tests. In Private mode, test measurements remain temporarily in the browser and are not intentionally added to the artwork database.
In Collective mode, the endpoint receives one compact summary after completion or early exit: broad classification categories for each reached test, completion status, total duration, mobile/desktop category, whether optional device motion was used, and whether the final prediction matched. Raw tap intervals, drawings, pointer paths, orientation streams, cryptographic nonces, and individual test scores are not transmitted.
The public panel displays cumulative totals and percentages. These aggregates are retained while the work remains online and may be reproduced in exhibitions or project documentation. They are not presented as individual profiles.
Work 003: The Inferred Self
The opening screen offers a genuine choice between Private Mode and Collective Mode before behavioural observation begins. The complete portrait, classification, save function, and share function work in both modes.
During the encounter, raw pointer paths, hold movement, pressure samples where supported, exact hesitation times, corrections, swipe paths, stillness disturbances, and optional device-orientation samples remain temporarily in the browser. They alter the generative portrait but are not uploaded.
In Collective Mode, the endpoint receives one compact summary after classification or early exit: completion category, broad archetype, pace/reversal/stillness categories, mobile or desktop category, sensor or fallback route, duration, and six integer trait scores from 0 to 100. The server adds these values to cumulative counts and score sums; it does not retain an individual profile. Aggregates are retained while the work remains online and may be reproduced in exhibitions or project documentation.
Operational hosting logs may be created by the web server independently of the artwork database. A complete production launch should include the final Hostinger logging and retention details here.
